  1. 6. Contributing to halal projects is rewarding in the Dunya and Akhirah

A well-known hadith of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) states:  "When a man dies, his good deeds come to an end except three: ongoing charity, beneficial knowledge, and righteous offspring who will pray for him." (Muslim, 3084).

There are many motivational elements in contributing to halal projects, but one of the most important is the promise of reward, both in the Dunya and Akhirah. While the purpose of every Muslim’s life is to attain the Almighty’s satisfaction, Muslims are more eager to support projects that promise rewards in the Dunya and Akhirah. So, keep in mind that projects which maximize benefits for the contributor and society both in this world and the Hereafter will attain their funding goals much faster.

As rewards for their contributions you can offer contributors to your campaign cool incentives or experiences called “Rewards” or “Perks”. A lot of projects on HALALLAUNCHER.COM fall under the category of “sadaqah jariyah”, which means continuous sadaqah / charity. When you contribute to these projects, you will continue to accumulate reward from them for as long as they benefit people – whether you are alive or not.

Ongoing reward in this life and the next

Many factors motivate people to contribute to beneficial projects, but the most important of these is the promise of reward for doing so, both in this world, as well as in the Akhirah. You will therefore find many projects on HALALLAUNCHER that fall under the category of “sadaqah jariyah”.

It’s also about who you know

People usually contribute to projects launched or backed by people they know and trust, like relatives, friends, colleagues, Islamic leaders and other reputable people.

In some cases people support projects because they are passionate about them.  For example, some people gravitate towards projects which involve educating children, others may have a special place in their hearts for projects which involve sport, some may have an affinity for medical projects, etc.

Being part of something big

Some contributors are motivated by a desire to participate in something big, like building a mosque, a school or being part of a breakthrough technological venture.

Find a project which interests you here, make a contribution towards it, and help turn it into a really useful halal project.   Learn more about contributing here.

Now that you know your project can become a reality, you are probably really excited to get started on it. Here is some important information we have compiled to make sure that you gain maximum benefit from using HALALLAUNCHER.  Try to read this section carefully before you launch your campaign:

  1. 1. Reflect on your intention

The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said that every action will be judged according to its intention.  An action for this world will bring you benefit in this world.  But an action for this world, as well as the Hereafter, will benefit you in both lives, inshaAllah.

Even if at first sight, your project doesn’t seem to be linked to the Hereafter, consciously reflecting on the outcome may reveal that it is indeed something which will bring you reward in both worlds.

For example, if you’re raising funds for an economically disadvantaged student to study, it may initially seem that you’re just assisting someone for this world.  But consider the long term impact of that action:  the student will inshaAllah make dua for you, when he completes his studies, he may be able to financially assist his parents, and they too will make dua for you.  So when you are making your intention, try to link your action to the Hereafter, and the Almighty will bless it with success.

  1. 2. Visualize your project

Take some time to imagine your project as if it has already materialised – how it will change lives, how it will benefit society, how it will make you feel knowing that it has come to life.  Imagine not only the fulfilment you will enjoy in this world, but also the reward you will inshaAllah receive in the Hereafter.

  1. 3. Look at other campaigns

Look at the other campaigns featured on our site.  Ask yourself these questions:

By looking at other campaigns, you will get an understanding of what works and what doesn’t, and you will be able to implement these points when you’re posting your campaign on HALALLAUNCHER.

  1. 4. Plan your campaign

Planning is essential when it comes to launching a successful campaign.  Grab a pen and some paper, and ask yourself these important questions:

  1. 5. Create a team

Whilst it sometimes seems simpler to do everything by yourself, research has shown that campaigns involving a team, with each individual dedicated to a specific role, bear more fruit and are more profitable. Important roles to consider are:  strategy development, marketing research, public relations and donor support.

  1. 6. Find the proper and reputable Guarantors for your project

HALALLAUNCHER uses the mechanism of Guarantors to ensure that there is a level of confidence between contributors and project / campaign owners.  A guarantor can be any reputable person who will be viewed as trustworthy by your target audience, for e.g. your local Imam, Islamic scholar, industry expert or celebrity.

Even if it’s not legally binding and mandatory point for Projects/Campaigns to be placed on HALALLAUNCHER, we highly recommend to Project/Campaign Owners not to neglect this powerful mechanism and to find as Guarantors for your Projects some trustworthy people from your community, domain experts.

  1. 7. Create a focused campaign with clearly defined goals

Your idea may be big, and that’s okay.  But in order to make it seem attainable, both to yourself and to your potential contributors, it’s important to keep it simple and focused and to break it down into short term, medium term and long term goals.

  1. 8. Record and share a video pitch

Video pitches are a quick and effective way of convincing people to buy into your project.  The visual medium is a powerful one, and when people can see, feel and hear the passion you have for your project, they are more likely to support you.

Keep the following in mind when recording your video pitch:

  1. 9. Make a schedule

Don’t randomly select a day on which to launch your campaign.  Research has shown that it’s best to launch on a Monday or Tuesday, and to stay away from launching at weekends and during holiday periods.

Once you’ve identified a suitable date on which to launch your campaign, ensure that you have all systems in place in order to meet your deadline.

You should also decide, from the outset, how long your campaign will run for.  Our research has found that a campaign should not last for longer than one and a half months, as it’s difficult to keep contributors interested beyond that, and necessitates additional resources.

  1. 10. Think ahead

Don’t think of contributors in a financial sense only.  Consider what other kind of assistance they can give you (apart from monetary contributions) and include this in your campaign.  For example, can they test your product?  Can they market your idea?  What else can they do?

  1. 11. Create rewards

Rewards and incentives are useful tools that encourage people to buy into an idea.

They can include:

It is important to have a reward structure.  So for e.g. a contribution of $25 entitles a contributor to an acknowledgement on your website, a $50 contribution entitles him/her to a free gift, etc.

Look at other campaigns for ideas on how to frame your rewards, and what kind of rewards/perks to offer.

Also, remember to have a budget for rewards, or to offer rewards only to the first batch of people who contribute, as material perks can be expensive, especially when you consider international postage costs.  You may want to give this extensive thought, and consider only offering material rewards to local contributors.

You also need to let contributors know that they may only receive their rewards if you reach your funding goal.  Alternatively, you can approach some businesses or organizations and ask them to sponsor rewards like audio CDs/DVDs, books, etc.)

HALALLAUNCHER has made it easy for you to offer rewards, by including a ‘Special Reward’ option, which you can select when posting your campaign.

This option is available on our Reward Panel.  On this panel you can showcase the most attractive reward your campaign offers.

  1. 12. Select the funding model which suits your campaign best

There are 2 ways of funding which make HalalLauncher more flexible for project/campaign owners. These are very important to know:

Fixed and Flexible:

The Flexible funding model is suitable if you agree to get the amount of money you raised during your campaign. Many campaigns choose the Flexible option because it allows them reach their objective. The Flexible model is usually suited for most campaigns.

But if your campaign needs a minimum amount of money to bring your project to life as well as execute reward promises, you can choose the Fixed model. With this route, you’ll get all or nothing of the money raised depending on whether you attain your funding goal or not.

  1. 13. Define and calculate your funding goal

Calculate your goal paying attention to the following:

Once your campaign is up and running, you can follow these steps to ensure you reach your goal:

  1. 1. Start with the people you know

Activate all the contacts in your various networks, by asking them to contribute. Ask them to let other people know about your campaign.  In this way you can raise around 30% of what you require.

  1. 2. Spread the word about your campaign

It is vital that you let as many people as possible know about your campaign. Design an intensive, multi-channeled approach, which uses both, the internet as well as face-to-face marketing (like flyers, posters and word of mouth).

Social media is one of the most effective ways of spreading the word, not just to your immediate contacts, but to internet users around the world.  Use this medium to constantly update your target audience about your campaign, by:

Most popular social networks will help you to communicate with journalists who can write articles about your project – the more they write, the more contributions you are likely to attract.

  1. 3. Keep in constant touch with your audience during the campaign

Pay attention to contributors who have shown an interest in your campaign.  Remember to execute their rewards (if you are able to do so, before you reach your goal) and encourage them to assist further.

Thank them for their contributions by creating a thank you template which you can send to them when they make a contribution.

Keep them updated about the progress of your campaign on a weekly basis, by sending them new and interesting information, and let them know about any changes you have implemented in your campaign process, or if there is likely to be a delay in the delivery of their rewards. Don’t delay in responding to comments or questions on your campaign page, and keep visitors to your campaign page updated about the amount of money you’ve raised so far.  Note the suggestions they make for the future (and thank them for these), as they may enhance the quality of your project.

Now that your campaign is over:

  1. 1. Execute contributor rewards and keep your word

Execute the rewards you have promised contributors if:

Do not execute your reward if you chose Fixed Funding and you didn’t achieve your funding goal.

  1. 2. Receive your money

When your campaign has ended, HALALLAUNCHER will pay out the money you received through Stripe or a bank transfer.

How we send you your money depends on how your campaign receives contributions. In other words:
